Biography

(1986- )

Martin was introduced and drawn to clay whilst studying at school. He perused an interest in this material as he liked working from a formal and abstract approach. For him clay was and still is an expressive medium as it has the possibility to be transformed into anything. He felt clay could record and connect to his emotion, experience and the real world as it is a very hands on material.

Martin studied his BA in Three Dimensional Design Ceramics at the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham, UK (2010). After this he studied an MA in Ceramics at Cardiff School of Art and Design, UK (2012).

He was awarded The Bristol First Collective who purchased his sculpture Juxtaposed at the 161st Annual Open Exhibition at the Royal West of England Academy, UK (2014). His sculpture was selected for the inclusion in Rising Stars at the New Ashgate Gallery Farnham, UK, (2015).

Martin also undertook a residency at the Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Center, Denmark (2015). Martin’s sculpture Solitude was selected for the Taiwan Ceramics Biennale, New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum, Taiwan (2016).

Martin has exhibited his work internationally such as Taiwan, Slovenia, Austria, Romania, South Korea, Kenya, Denmark and China. His work is also in collections such as the New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum Taiwan, Fuping Pottery Art Village China, Cluj Art Museum Romania, Bristol First Collective and The National Museum of Slovenia.

The underlying concern of his work is to keep developing his skill, process and explore new possibilities.
